Go on a weekday afternoon if you want to browse the stalls without queuing, and treat a Friday or Saturday evening as the atmosphere visit. Daley Plaza sits in the middle of the Loop, so pair it with a museum morning or a Riverwalk walk rather than making it the whole day.

The event
The Christkindlmarket fills Daley Plaza, in the middle of the Loop, with wooden vendor huts, German food and drink, and the collectible mug that changes design every year. The 2026 season opens on Friday, November 20 at all three locations and runs at Daley Plaza through Christmas Eve.
Regular hours at Daley Plaza are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, with short 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. days on Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve.
Three locations, one pattern
Daley Plaza is the original and the one to build a downtown visit around. The Wrigleyville market at Gallagher Way runs to December 31 with later weekday openings, and the Aurora market at RiverEdge Park runs Thursday to Sunday through December 24 as the largest of the three.
If the Loop crowds are the problem rather than the point, the Wrigleyville market is a Red Line ride north and stays open a week longer.
Timing the visit
Weekday afternoons are the quiet window; Friday and Saturday evenings after office hours are the busiest and the most atmospheric. December weekends push Loop hotel prices up, so an early-December weekday stay costs less and queues less.
Winter off the lake is cold and the market is entirely outdoors: dress for standing still, and keep an indoor fallback such as the Art Institute or the Cultural Center a few blocks away.
